Hi Sarah, welcome to iCabbi! Tell us a bit about yourself…
Well, where to begin! Howth born and bred – following school I had real trouble finding my lane and so went through a number of different courses from Estate Agency Practice to Business Information Systems and Software Development to finally starting my career in HR.
What's your initial impression of iCabbi been since you started here?
Amazing! Having read previous blogs, it is a real task to try and describe first impressions – this is going to sound cliché but It feels like home. The people have been so warm and welcoming and it feels like home, a mere 7 days in!
How did you come across iCabbi and the role you are in here?
I knew of iCabbi for some time having been from Howth and knowing of the guys involved but it wasn’t until I was approached for the role of Head of HR and OD that I really began my research in to the journey iCabbi has been on.
What is your background and how will it help in your new role with iCabbi?
I have spent the last five years working in scaling and building a start-up in to owning a true reputation and identity as an employer of choice within a really unique industry. Achieving Best Place to Work in IT awards to Excellence Through People certifications, the experience of building a HR function from the ground up whilst experiencing the growing pains of a fast-moving industry and organisation was something which I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the startup vibe and being an integral part of creating something that people really appreciated. Enabling people to perform to the best of their ability and truly disrupting an industry is something that resonated with my previous role.
Why did you choose iCabbi as your next career move?
It seemed like the perfect fit. iCabbi has such an exciting growth phase ahead and I really wanted to not only be a part of it to experience it for myself but to ensure the experience we are giving to all employees will be one that is second to none! We are disrupting the industry and so I really wanted to disrupt the traditional view of introducing HR from an Organisational Development perspective to an organisation at the scale we are was too good an opportunity to turn down. Placing people at the core of the business was really important to the senior team and I was all in from the beginning of the conversations!
What is the best thing about being part of the HR team as opposed to any other area of the business?
People! My role and function spans the whole organsiation. We get to view all of the different areas from an individual, team and cross-functional perspective and there is no greater satisfaction knowing you have assisted with putting the right people, in the right role, in the right team and they are contributing to the mission whilst thoroughly enjoying themselves – it is a truly rewarding area of the business to work in! Without the people there is no innovation and without innovation, we remain still, and in today’s world of work, you can’t stay still for long!
What are you most looking forward to in your role?
I am looking forward to truly understanding every facet of the organisation to really start making recommendations on new initiatives and recruiting for over 40 people this year - creating fantastic opportunities for people looking for their next career move. I am really looking forward to making a difference and truly contributing to the companies mission.
Where do you see the taxi industry in 5 years’ time?
That is the exciting part, with so much open for discovery and disruption, we truly have the opportunity to be thought leaders and discover new things. We have already had many “wow” moments with our customers and with AI and electronic vehicles combined with our amazing innovation, research and development and product owners in iCabbi. I can tell you one thing - iCabbi will be leading from the front!
What are you most likely to be doing when you’re not in the office?
You will most likely find me on a Friday evening with a glass of prosecco/wine (insert any drink really) in hand and out with my friends. I have an amazing group of friends who I have known for years and we are all really close. I love adventure and I am really social. If I am not with my friends, you will, for sure, find me with family! If not there, I would like to say in the gym or something sporty, but, truth be told, that is something I need to kick start again so maybe now that it is written here I might feel the guilt and get back to it!
